  • The Grant Parish School Board is committed to the optimal development of every student and strives to ensure positive, safe, and health-promoting learning environments. We are seeking public input on our School Wellness Policy to help us ensure environments and opportunities for all students to practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors throughout the school day while minimizing commercial distractions. Your feedback is valuable and will help us in our ongoing efforts to promote student wellness

  • Do you feel adequately informed about the content and implementation of the School Wellness Policy?
  • Section 2: Nutrition

  • The School Board aims to provide healthy meals with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free/low-fat milk; that are moderate in sodium, low in saturated fat, and have zero grams trans-fat per serving. Do you feel this goal is being met in our school meals?
  • Are school meals accessible to all students, appealing and attractive to children, and served in clean and pleasant settings?
  • Do you believe students have access to free, safe, unflavored drinking water throughout the school day?
  • The policy states that foods and beverages sold outside of school meal programs (competitive foods) should meet USDA nutrition standards. Do you observe this being followed in vending machines, school stores, or snack carts?
  • The School Board provides lists of healthy party ideas and Smart Snacks nutrition standards for classroom snacks. Are these resources helpful and easily accessible?
  • Do you agree that foods and beverages will not be used as a reward, or withheld as punishment for any reason, such as for performance or behavior?

  • How effective are classroom physical activity breaks (short 3-5 minute breaks offered at least three days per week) in encouraging students to be active or stretch during the day?
